Andrews, Walter Randolph July 20, 2025

It is with great sadness that the family of Walter Andrews announces his sudden passing at the family farm in Ebenezer on July 20, 2025, aged 81.

He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 56 years, Louise (Sellar) Andrews; his children Kimberley Andrews, Vanessa (James) Bonnyman, and Melissa (Kelsey) Morrow. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Dylan and Teagan Andrews-Christian and Alyssa and Kinsley Morrow.

Walter is survived by his sister Joyce and Clayton Coles, sister-in-law Marlene (Kitson) Andrews, brother-in-law Charles (Margaret) Sellar, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents Malcolm and Jessie (Enman) Andrews and parents-in-law Foster and Margaret (Stevenson) Sellar; and siblings Alton Andrews and Wayne and Olive Andrews.

Walter taught us about the value of balancing hard work and family while running the family farm in Ebenezer. Walter found joy in the simple things in life: spending time with his family, visiting friends, woodworking, and curling to name a few. He had a special place for his grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow and follow their passions. Walter’s life-long service of commitment to his Church, 4-H, The Giant Pumpkin Growers Association and community was a true testament of who he was. He lived a full and wonderful life - “A Life Well Lived”. Walter was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Our family motto was “if Grampie can’t fix it no one can”.

Resting at Central Queens Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral service will take place at the Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place following the service at the New Glasgow Cemetery.

History

The Central Queen's Funeral Home is a co-operative venture of the people of the communities surrounding New Glasgow P.E.I.. It is owned by the Central Queen's Funeral Co-op Limited which was organized in 1988. Presently we have a membership of approximately 900.

A nine member board oversees the working and operation of the funeral home. The Central Queen's Funeral Co-op purchased an older home in New Glasgow shortly after it's inception and operated out of the building until 2003 using local churches for most wakes and funerals.

In 2002 the membership approved plans for construction of a modern new facility amid the rolling hills of New Glasgow. We moved into our new building during the summer of 2003. The Central Queen's Funeral Home offers full funeral services in a very attractive and functional building on a beautiful site with generous room for parking. Although most wakes and funerals are held in our building, we still provide services in local churches.

Donations

Memorial donations are accepted at the Central Queen's Funeral Home for any charity requested by the family. The family receives a card identifying the donor.

Official receipts for income tax purposes are issued to the donor by the organization receiving the donation.

Membership

When a person becomes a member of a co-operative, he or she has the same rights as every other member regardless of the number of shares held. Each member has the right to be notified of meetings of the membership, to attend meetings and vote on all matters brought before such meetings.

Each member of the co-operative is also entitled to receive a copy of the audited financial statements each year. The members also approve of the auditor appointed at each annual meeting. Each member can also stand for election to the Board of Directors if he or she is interested in being more involved with the overall administration of the affairs of the co-operative.

A membership share in Central Queen's Funeral Co-op Ltd costs $50 and
applications can be obtained by contacting the funeral home or any of the directors.

Principles of Co-operation

For better understanding of co-operation and the funeral co-operatives it may be best to explain the seven principles of co-operation. The seven principles outline the responsibilities every co-op has to its members and communities.

  1. Open and Voluntary Membership
Anyone who will accept the responsibility of membership and who can use the services may join the co-operative.

  2. Democratic Participation
At the local co-op level, each member has one vote, regardless of the amount of shares held. Member-owners control the co-op and have a responsibility to participate in decision making.

  3. Limited Interest on Share Capital
Co-ops are organized to provide services and are not for investment purposes. Generally, no interest is paid on share capital.

  4. Surplus Earnings Returned to Members
Surpluses, after expenses and reserve fund holdbacks, are returned to members in proportion to the use they make of the co-op.

  5. Co-operative Education
Member education is a vital part of co-operatives. Each co-op has an obligation to provide opportunities to help members, elected officials, staff and the general public, in understanding co-operatives and their role.

  6. Co-operation Among Co-operatives
All co-ops should actively co-operate in every practical way at local, national and international levels.

  7. Concerns for Community
Co-operatives accept the fact that they are vital and an important component of the communities in which they exist and must take steps to encourage the health of the community.
