Gallant, Phyllis December 27, 2025

Mary Alice Phyllis Peters MacLean Gallant was born on December 23, 1930 in St. Louis PEI. She traded this earth for heaven on December 27, 2025 at the incredible age of 95.

Phyllis was predeceased by her parents Fred J. Peters and Annie (Caddigan) Peters, husbands Robert MacLean and Leo Gallant, sisters Ada (Pat) Shea and Marjorie (Ben) Arsenault, daughter Heather (Lloyd) Hooseinny, sister-in-law Velda (Ralph) Peters, and great grandson Malcolm Austin.

Phyllis is survived by brother Ralph Peters, son Reid (Janet) MacLean, daughter Gail (Daniel) Hill, niece Janice (Fred) Keating, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one great great grandson as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed.

Phyllis grew up in St. Louis where she enjoyed attending school and could often be found in the kitchen cooking delicious meals for her family. In 1948 Phyllis married Bob MacLean in Halifax, and raised their three children and a niece in Spryfield, Nova Scotia.

In 1977, several years after the passing of her husband, Phyllis returned to Prince Edward Island and married Leo Gallant in 1979. They settled into a house Leo built for them in Miminigash. After a long illness, Leo passed in 2000. The following year, Phyllis moved to her much loved apartment in Alberton.

Over the years Phyllis worked several different jobs to support her family. The one she seemed most proud of was keeping the Parish House for Palmer Road Church. She enjoyed cooking for and taking care of the Priests, and always remembered her time there with fondness.

Phyllis was extremely proud of having 17 great grandchildren and loved showing off their pictures and art work to anyone who came to visit. Hearing about their adventures brought her great happiness.

Something that never failed to bring a smile to her face was being out somewhere and hearing, “You have got to be Fred Peters’ daughter!” She was very close to her father, who lived with her during his last years, and she cherished the fact that they looked so much alike.

Phyllis had a great love for Prince Edward Island and decided shortly after retuning to PEI that she would never live anywhere else again… and she didn’t. Phyllis loved to drive around the island, stop for ice cream, and see the ocean. She was a woman of strong faith who prayed constantly for the family she loved so fiercely.

Phyllis’ family would like to express our deep gratitude to Linda Costain, her dearest friend, and her daughter Kelly Herget, for so many years of friendship and care. They would also like to thank the wonderful staff at Phillip House and Maplewood Manor for their excellent care and support.

She is resting at the West Prince Funeral Home, 522 Thompson Rd, St.Louis.

Visitation will be held there on Friday January 9, 2026 from 7 pm to 9 pm.
A funeral service will be held Saturday January 10, 2026 at 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church, Palmer Road.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Phyllis to Sacred Heart Parish in Alberton or Immaculate Conception Church in Palmer Road.
