Mary Elizabeth Doucette
December 28th, 1957 – October 28th, 2025
Our Bright & Colorful Angel Soars.
She took a deep breath and then folded into the sky as if folding a favorite dress, but her laugh stayed behind, a ribbon caught on the breeze.
Sunlight spilled like paint across the morning, and from the hush of loss rose a hum of color.
Bright wings unfurled where sorrow feared to tread— turquoise like the calm she offered, magenta for the songs she kept, gold for the little kindness moments she scattered like coins,
bright pink for the smiles she shared, and tropical lime green for every stubborn hope she believed in.
You will still find her in the bright seam of a cloud, in the bloom of late-summer flowers, in the way light tilts through the kitchen at noon. Grief is heavy, yes, but memory lights itself in a rainbow of vibrant feathers. You will feel her smile in those moments, and your face will light up. Weep not for loss but rather rejoice in what you gained in knowing her.
If you look up, there she is—an aurora of kindness, wings beating a steady, impossible lullaby, carrying the pieces of you both into a kinder sky,
where color remembers, and love remembers louder.
“If you want to die happy, learn to live. If you want to live happily, learn to die”.(Mary Doucette)
After living a very full life with no regrets and feeling ‘so blessed’ throughout this long walk home; Mary’s wishes were lovingly attended to, and she was able to die naturally and peacefully in her lovely home of Casa Maria in her own bed with her family by her side.

Adored Auntie to numerous nieces and nephews
And so many more that were not actually relatives
The family wish to extend our thanks to all who were so important and supportive to Mary these many years and most especially the last three years as she took her final walk home. To her ‘Dragon Mates’ and UofA Dental co-workers, her care team at the Cross Cancer Centre, her personal doctor Dr. King, and many others in the medical world in Edmonton.
In PEI, many came from far and wide to make a ‘pilgrimage’ to Casa Maria – the joy and love that this brought to Mary cannot be fully expressed in words. One entire family drove across Canada to come visit Auntie Mary and stay at Casa Maria!
Special thanks to Doctor Haymen and the emerge staff in Alberton, Also Dr. Blais as well as SammyJo and her Home Care team, her special personal nurse and beloved niece Susan. Mary’s experience with the medical system across Canada was beyond reproach and delivered with compassion and care at every step on the way.
The family wish to invite you to a grand cross-country and international celebration of our beloved Mary who was truly special and oh so unique in so many ways!

Now this wouldn’t be a real celebration of Mary unless she got to be a little bit ‘Bossy’.
So, her very specific instructions for what to wear are as follows:
“Absolutely no dark and depressing clothes. Please make sure everyone wears the
brightest colors - they don't need to worry about matching - lord knows I never did. And for godssake don't let anyone in wearing brown - if they do, I swear I'm coming back as a pigeon, and I will s--t on their head."
If you wish to donate in memory of Mary, the following were both dear to her heart and she was always supportive of the great work they do in helping those among us in need.

But most importantly – Mary left an amazing example in her dying – NOT in how to die, but how to LIVE. Love freely and express your feelings as often as you can and accept that same love from others – count every small joy that comes into your daily life, and you will find your blessings to be incalculable. Never miss an opportunity to be kind.
Live life where color remembers, and love remembers louder.
