Peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the passing of Joan Margaret McDonald (nee Sanderson) of Montague occurred on Friday, September 26, 2025 with family by her side. Born in Cardigan PE on December 18, 1944, daughter of the late Daniel and Blanche (Burke) Sanderson.
Joan will be forever missed by her daughter Beth (David) McInnis; sons Lorne (Crystal), Harvey (Tracey) and Scott (Tracy) McDonald; cherished grandchildren Alicia (Justin) Dowell, Lindsay (Nicholas) Bell, Lilla (Rob) Vail, Devan (Brittany) McDonald, Daniel (Natasha) McDonald, Kirby (Dennis) McInnis, Josh, Johnathan (Christie) Galway, Kaylea McDonald, Logan (Caitlen) McDonald, Rebecca McDonald and Victoria (Austin) McDonald; and precious great grandchildren: Zoey, Steven, Abel,, Peyton, Tanner, Khloe, Finley, Cayden, Connor, August, Madelyn, Myles, Jonah, Asher, Oliver and Emily. Survived by siblings: Muriel Bungay, Ray (Theresa) Sanderson, Merle (Harry) MacDonald, Dionna MacDonald, Brent (Sylvia) Sanderson; Rhonda MacLeod, Garnet Sanderson, Blaine Sanderson, and Lionel Sanderson; and sister-in-law Sheila Sanderson.
Predeceased by her husband J. Arthur McDonald; brothers Emmett,
and Dale Sanderson; sisters Barbara (Forest) O’Brien, Waneta (Alex) MacDonald, Vonda and Cynthia Sanderson (infancy); and brother-in-law John MacLeod.
Joan was known for her kindness and care to all those that knew her. She found joy in the simple things whether it was volunteering at the Lions Club, sewing her quilts, playing cards or making pickles and jams for family to enjoy. The loss of her presence will be deeply felt, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
We would like to say thank you to Dr. Miller, Dr. Song and the nurses of Unit one for their compassion for Mom as well as us the family during her stay. Also special thanks to Dr. Saleh and staff at Own Health Clinic for the care and compassion over the past months for Mom.
Resting at Southern Kings and Queens Funeral Home, Murray River for visitation on Monday, September 29th from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral service at funeral home chapel Tuesday, September 30 at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made in Joan’s memory to the Royal Canadian Legion (Montague Branch) or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
